Academics : Training and Fellowships for Post Graduates

 

 

Retina Foundation conducts 3 months and 2 year fellowship programmes in Vitreo Retinal Surgery. Over 180  vitreo retinal fellows have been trained since 1976 from India and abroad.

           1)  VitreoRetinal Fellowship

Duration

2 years

Session commences

January, April. July, October

Places available

One per session

MS/MD/DNB (Ophthalmology)

Selection

Through interview /observership

                      2)  Fellow, National Board Of Examination (FNB) Retina and Vitreous 

Duration

2 years

Eligibility

Candidates with DNB/MD/MS qualification in the ophthalmology are eligible ,with preference to DNB candidates.

Selection

Selection is based on an entrance test conducted by the National Board Of Examinations around May-June every year.

 The trainee will go through a structured training programme, maintain a performance record book and undergo an examination at  the end of the training.

Candidates will be awarded Fellow, National Board of Examinations (FNB), at the annual convocation.

 

                     3)  IFOS/ICO International Fellowship ( ONLY For Outside India/International Candidates )

Duration

3 months

4) Fellowship in Cornea and  Refractive Surgery

Duration:  Clinical and Research Fellowship- 6 months

      Clinical Fellowship/Observership - 3  months

Eligibility: Candidates with DNB/MD/MS qualification in the ophthalmology are eligible .(International Candidates can also apply )

Selection: Through interview /observership

5) Lamellar Corneal Surgery  Course

Duration : 5 days ( Limited to 6 sessions in a year )

Eligibility : Ophthalmologists / Corneal Surgeons keen on learning Lamellar Keratoplasty, Descemet's Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty, Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty , Big Bubble Keratoplasty ,Corneal Collagen CrossLinking .

Course Content: Candidates are provided with a step by step approach to the surgical proceduresincluding exposure to a variety of instruments used in surgery. Candidates also get to review unedited tapes of prior surgeries to understand various steps, and management of intraoperative complications. Candidates also review in OPD post operative patients of lamellar corneal surgery  at various stages of follow up. Wet lab training is provided both on animal eyes and donor corneo-scleral rims mounted on artificial anterior chamber while being first assistant in live surgery performed by Dr Ashish Nagpal  helps them understand the arrangement in the operation theatre and how to train the assisting nurse.

Selection: 1 to 2 candidates at a time to provide a one on one interaction and better learning.

5) Corneal Collagen CrossLinking Course

Duration: 3 days

Eligibility : Ophthalmologists keen on learning Corneal Collagen CrossLinking for Keratoconus and Corneal Ectasia.

Course Content: Candidates are provided with a step by step approach to the management of keratoconus with Corneal Collagen CrossLinking with Riboflavin   Candidates also review in OPD post operative patients of keratoconus at various stages of follow up. Wet lab training is provided both on animal eyes and donor corneo-scleral rims.

Selection: 1 to 2 candidates at a time to provide a one on one interaction and better learning.

7) Fellowship Program for Optometrists

Duration:  Clinical and Research Fellowship- 6 months / 1 year

Eligibility: Candidates with preferably  Degree in Optometry ( Candidates with Diploma in Optometry are  also eligible depending on their experience )

Selection: Through interview /observership only
